Day 7. Ventura Beach to Los Angeles Veterans Center. 62 Miles, 2000' of climbing

The shower trucks in the morning of Day 7.

Riding out of Ventura Beach. Only a 62 mile day but I wanted to get to the LA VA Center by 12. We rode through Oxnard and then hit Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) at mile 20 where Rest Stop One would be.

The Naval Air Base at Point Mugu

After the Rest Stop, this ride got seriously beautiful.

  More beauty.

Mom & Dad greeting for the last time this year.

My friend and fellow training ride leader Stan Wong who was working bike tech, at Rest Stop Two.

Picture of me taken by Stan.

Lisa again.

More shots of PCH...

Lunch near Pepperdine University. We were getting close.

Riding on PCH that is cool, but rather dangerous.

Finally, to turn left at Santa Monica, we had to go underground.

One last climb and then the top which would get us onto San Vicente into LA. Fans would greet us with sweets at the top.

Riding into the VA Center. It was over, all 545 miles with no injuries!

Les and Kathryn which we met on the street just like we met him on Day One. I had a lot of fun with him. Kathryn and Les grew close on the ride.

Chicken Lady who had a stroke a few weeks earlier which prevented him from riding. He's ridden many, many rides, much more than my 12.

Riding into the Closing Ceremonies.

A rider who had ridden some of my training rides in past years. It was very nice seeing her still riding!

Ron and Wilema Marshall. It was her first ride, his tenth.

Ron giving Kathryn and big hug.

Kathryn and Me at the end.

This was a special ride, as they all are. I had an extremely good time while raising over $6,500 for this great cause. And yes, I've signed up for next year. Lucky 13? It was also a very special week for Kathryn who didn't know what to expect (I really did try to describe it). She said it was one of the most incredible experiences that she's ever had and shed tears more than one time. She gained a lot of new friends, new massage and meditation techniques, but most of all, an appreciation for the diversity we experience on the ride. We all came away from the ride changed persons.

Thanks!

Dan
