Day Five! Red dress day. A while ago, someone came up with the idea for everyone to wear red to simulate the red ribbon. That morphed into Red Dress Day. I did not participate in wearing a red dress but did wear a red jersey. Since today was such a short day, we could leave later. I hooked up with Alfie & Lisa and we decided to try to ride with as many fixed gear/single speed riders as we could. The way it turned out, there were four fixed gears and me, the only single speed. Total for these types of bikes was about ten out of 2,300!

My knee was not hurting and we did have substantial climbing with relatively steep grades today.

Day Five first light in Santa Maria. Notice all the red dressed people. It was a kick.

My bike parked in bike parking before roll out.

Roland, a fixed gear rider riding in his red dress.

My friend Bob giving me the finger. Too funny!

Rest Stop One is a sea of red.

Our little fixed gear/single speed group for the day. From the left it's me, Alfie, Ken, Roland and Lisa.

Christopher, a student at the school at Casmelia and me. Also pictured is his note to the cyclists.

Me and Lori Jean, Director of the LA Gay & Lesbian Center, at Rest Stop Two in Casmelia.

Another letter from one of the students.

This is a shot of the road leading up to the Vandenberg climb.

Riders ahead of me on the Vandenberg climb.

Lisa ahead of me headed towards one the huge rolling hills. I would spin ahead of her because I had a freewheel and could coast and she had to spin because of her fixed geared bike.

I arrived in camp around 1:30 and had a lot of time on my hands. Here's a shot of the Camp Store.

Sports Medical tent, my home every morning. They kept me rolling!

The dinner tent would open at 4 pm.

The computers were I would read my "messages" from my supporters.
