Day Five (Thursday 6/8/2006) - Santa Maria to LompocClick on the picture to expand
Ride Profile for the day. 43.98 miles with 1906' of elevation climbed.
Day Five was Red Dress Day. Joe, my tent mate was having a "problem" getting into his Victoria Secret teddy his wife bought him.
Me, showing my cinch bag which was an incentive gift for signing up for next year's (ALC6) ride.
Bag Balm which is sometimes called Butt Balm. I had my own stash which once the word got out, I became very popular. The Butt Balm the ride organizers gave out was not of the quality my stash was.
A rider a couple of tents over saw I wasn't wearing anything "red dressy". She gave me a spare thing although, notice it's pink. It was also too big for me as I kept having to pull it up!
My co-worker and friend, Bob Jensen on the left, has been bugging me for years to dress up. Here he is, part of the Mini-Mouse group.
Our gear trucks. People were having a ball with the day. Red Dress Day, that is.
This road is on the outskirts of Santa Maria. If you drew a straight line from Santa Maria to Lompoc, it would be 22 miles.
Farm workers. What they were thinking when they saw all the red.
On Black road headed towards the first major climb. It would be a short 8% climb but enough to get your heart rate.
Me, Annabel and Bill. I really do think I smell and Annabel is downwind.
The town Casmilia, population 100, really knows how to party.
I took this picture of Casmilia midway in the second climb of the day.
Scott, our top of the hill barker. His cheering got us over the hill.
Ginger giving riders sweets as we summit. A really good thing I might say. I got a sweet and sour worm!
After the descent, we're headed towards the last major climb of the day, the Vanderberg climb.
The start of the 6-8% climb. This climb was about 3/4 of a mile.
I stopped to take this picture of riders coming up behind me.
A quick right turn and the M&M un-official stop. Oreo's and M&M's. Just what the doctored ordered.
Matt and me at lunch. Matt is the guy who I collided with in my Day Two crash. We had dinner later on. Great guy!
After lunch, we're turning left back to camp. The riders riding past are on their way to lunch.
