Ride Profile for the day. 83 miles with 4052' elevation climbed.
Gear trucks which would carry our gear fro the whole week. I had the "G" truck because my tent assignment was G-67.
Alice and me at the Cow Palace in time for the 6:30 ride out.
Me and Bob Jensen, a fellow co-worker out of the San Jose office. Bob, like me, is a long time AIDS rider.
My trusty Sony digital camera which would take over 400 pictures on the ride. The "perfect" riding camera. People are still amazed at how small it is.
Chris Cole explaining his own personal admission which was quite touching. All the riders wore red helmet covers on the ride out to the first rest stop. At the end of the ride, the helmet covers would be stitched together to form a 25 which represents 25 years since the announcement of the terrible disease. On the helmet covers, they had the inscription, "Not another 25 years!"
More of the walk out. This year we had over 1800 riders and raised 8 million dollars!
Right out of the gate, we had a small climb. The day was cloudy and a little chilly. Perfect for riding!
The Water stop at Crystal Springs Reservoir. Absolutely beautiful!
The top of the Highway 92 climb where Taiko drummers would be playing and cheering us on. Awesome! One of the drummers was pregnant with her son three years ago and drumming for us then. This year, he was drumming us up!
The descent on 92 down to Half Moon Bay. An "E" ticket if I ever saw one.
The Sword Dancer who has been at the top of the climb right after lunch.
Mom and Dad. They're here every year. They have both ridden the AIDS ride and when they're not riding, they're out on the entire course cheering us on. Their son, Rich rides almost every year also! Awesome people and very, very inspiring. Thanks for coming out Mom & Pop!
This part of the ride is very fast because of the tailwinds. Outstanding! And so gorgeous.
Team Pie came out and gave us pie and ice cream. I had cherry pie and vanilla ice cream! Yum!
Camp at the Harvey West Campground in Santa Cruz. After all these years, there is one thing I don't like about the ride. CAMPING!
